The wind finally settled down a bit between 4 - 5 a.m. Good news, no fog! So we pack up Miss Dog and head for shore. Back on the boat she eats her new dog food as though she hasn't eaten all week. Then, of course, her treat. We have our morning coffee and a bowl of hearty oatmeal. Then it's off to pull the crab pots. Fortunately we find them easily, pull the first one and get a fair number of keeper crabs. Then off to the second pot and another good bunch of keepers. In the end we had a full bucket and were throwing back legal crabs to just have our limit of good sized ones. On the boat we cleaned and cooked them all and made our list of worthy recipients. Then it's time to pack up and start heading for home (Cap Sante, that is). Without fog and the wind settled down it is a pleasant looking trip. Only challenge is the somewhat sloppy conditions between tide changes and residual overnight chop. But we have a good crossing and arrive in the Guemes Channel in the afternoon -- as planned -- and head towards the marina. On the way Lynn spots one of the ferries being towed to dry dock as it apparently had a mechanical issue. That was one large tug! We arrived in our slip, had a perfect docking and started the packing and hauling process. As we arrived about 3:30 in the afternoon we weren't rushed and were able to make sure we got everything packed up and closed up properly. Then into the car and head towards home. We did make one stop on the way which was to deliver crab to Dave and Perry. They invited us in for a glass of wine but we assured them that after a week without a shower, we were far better staying outside (and for them to be upwind of us). Finally we arrive home and it's time for a well appreciated bath (after emptying the car, of course). And the end of vacation means a few days of laundry for Lynn and folding for me. All in all, a wonderful time together and we enjoyed seeing friends and relatives (you can be both) along the way -- shout out to Joe and Chris and to Dave and Terri. Thus ends the 2017 San Juan Islands Adventure of Lynn and Dave (and Abigail). |
